The __?_?_?_?__ project is a collection of five sonic artefacts from five different abandoned spaces in the city: Funkhaus Grünau, Flugplatz Johannisthal, The Anatomy Institute, Weissensee’s Children's Hospital and the Chemiewerk Rüdersdorf.
Every soundscape will be played repetitively.
Each one is around 5 minutes long.
The main focus of this project is to investigate the vital cycle and relationship between life and death/past and future within the context of abandoned spaces, often referred also as "lost places”.
My work involved taking field recordings of these abandoned spaces (in other words, their present soundscape), molding and putting them in contrast with synthesized and sampled sounds that in a way represent what one could hear when these spaces were still functioning time ago.
The soundscapes are routed and transmitted through a spatial sound system to enhance the sense of space and dimension of the sonic artefacts.
The DIY zine accompanies the installation to provide information and insights about every location.
